Welcome to Louisville Area Woodturners (LAW)

We are a group of woodturners and woodworkers who share a common interest in promoting and growing the art and craft of woodturning through education, sharing ideas and techniques, community engagement and generally having fun. The club is affiliated with the American Association of Woodturners (AAW) and support the mission & purpose of AAW. We usually meet on the second Thursday of the month at Walden school except for December or when we have special events. Thanks for your interest, we hope you will join us.

Club Community Service Project

From the President (2024-25):

"I was contacted by a representative from the Arizona Woodturners Association asking if our club would be interested in turning wig stands for local cancer patients undergoing treatment.  They have been working with eBeauty, a company that provides wigs and wig stands for cancer patients, and they have been looking for a local club to serve patients in our area.

Your board has been looking for an opportunity to do some community service, and felt like this was a great option.

We have a couple of documents and a drawing with some basic dimensions, and examples of wig stands, for your reference.  Be as creative as you want to be.  There is no specific timeframe for completion of the wig stands, but we encourage everyone who is interested to turn as many as you can.  As we collect the wig stands, we will deliver them to eBeauty.  The AAW website also has some instructions for wig stands.

We feel like this is a great opportunity to show our club’s talent and willingness to serve our community."

Getting Started in Woodturning

Just starting or wondering about woodturning? There are many resources that provide a well rounded introduction to woodturning. One of the best is provided by the American Association of Woodturners who's mission is to promote woodturning in all of its facets. Although American in name the AAW has members around the world. Although LAW is affiliated with AAW, membership in AAW is not required to be a member of LAW or to attend our meetings.
